Campbell Morgan, noted preacher of London, Eng land, died May 16th. He was 81. He visited Tryon while his son, Dr. Perceval Morgan, was pastor of the Congregational church here, and he preached for him . . . Chas. J. Lynch, chairman of the Civilian Defense has announced the ap pointment of Wm. M. Spivey as chairman of the Polk County War Price and Rationing Board to succeed C. D. Stevens, who re ra&ed .... Tryon High School w^fiors and juniors will make their annual week-end camping out this week-end at Camp Ton A-Wandah, near Hendersonville. The Beta club will hold its picnic at Lake Lanier on Wednesday .... American soldiers 40 years old can be discharged upon request. Cpl. Phillips Liberated Mr. and Mrs. Luther Phillips of Mill Spring Route 1, have been notified by the War Department that their son, Cpl. Sherman E. Phillips, of the 7th Army Medical Corps, who was captured by the Germans on April 16th, was liber ated 11 days later on April 27th by the Americans. COURT OF HONOR HELD AT TRYON SCHOOL The Polk County Boy Scout Court of Honor held in the school building on Monday night, opened with prayer by Rev. T. P. Horger, followed with the repeating of the Scout Oath.
